Worksheet
Write About Animal Adaptations
Have you considered why elephants have trunks, or why polar bears have thick fur? In this writing exercise, fourth-grade scientists will analyze animals and their environments to identify an adaptation the animal uses to survive. Students will explain why the adaptation is helpful and identify what other adaptations an animal in the same habitat may need.
Reflecting on adaptations will build learners’ critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. Students must use what they know about each animal to figure out how it interacts with its environment and what adaptations may help the animal. Learners will also practice explaining their reasoning, which is a beneficial skill both inside and outside of the classroom.
