Worksheet

Which Plant Can Live in This Habitat? Ponds

Determine which plants would survive in a pond with this second- and third-grade worksheet! First, learners will describe a pond habitat. Is it hot, cold, wet, dry, grassy, or sandy? Then, students will read a short paragraph about how the various needs of plants are met by their habitats. Lastly, scientists will reflect on the needs of a water lily, cattail, and cactus to determine whether or not they could live in a pond.

This worksheet will guide students to think critically about how plants interact with their habitats. While plants all need water, light, nutrients, and space, plants need different amounts, and their habitats provide each one. Learners will also practice presenting evidence and making claims, both of which are vital for scientific research.
