Vocabulary Toolkit: Vocabulary Inventory

Invite students to inventory their vocabulary knowledge with this adaptable graphic organizer! With space for 10 new vocabulary terms, this worksheet invites students to record their word in the first column. Then, using the rating scale provided, learners will rate their level of understanding of the word. Lastly, students will record the part of speech and definition. The first row has been completed as an example. This resource makes a great self-assessment or pre-assessment. Consider having students record words from a novel study, short story unit, or a weekly vocabulary list.

Explicit vocabulary instruction and tools such as this support all learners and are especially valuable for English Language Learners and students needing additional vocabulary development. This versatile worksheet is intentionally flexible to support vocabulary-building efforts in an upper elementary or middle school classroom or at home.
