Verbs in Action: Past or Present #1

Practice identifying past and present tense verbs in this grammar worksheet! In part one, young writers will read 10 sentences and underline the verb in each. Then, students will decide if the verb is in the past or present tense. In part two, learners will write their own sentences containing past and present tense verbs.

This worksheet, designed for a third- or fourth-grade curriculum, is a helpful way to practice identifying action verbs and their tenses. Understanding the difference between past and present tense verbs will strengthen students’ reading and writing abilities . Mastering past and present tense verbs can also set learners up for success as they learn about different kinds of verbs and verb tenses.
