Worksheet

Use the Past Progressive Tense

Give students practice using past progressive tense verbs to complete sentences with this grammar worksheet! The past progressive tense is used for something that happened in the past for a duration of time. It uses the past tense of the helping verb to be (was or were), followed by and a main verb ending in -ing.

Designed for fourth- and fifth-grade students, this one-page practice worksheet starts with a concise review of the past progressive tense. Students will then practice forming the past progressive tense with provided verbs in order to complete 10 sentences.

Mastering progressive tense verbs is essential as students advance to reading and writing more complex texts. Check out Form Progressive Verb Tenses #1 and Use the Present Progressive Tense for more progressive verb practice.
