Worksheet
Use Ellipses in Narrative Dialogue
Ellipses can be great tools in narrative or informal writing to help readers “hear” the written dialogue more clearly. Use this worksheet to help middle-school writers correctly use ellipses to indicate a pause in narrative dialogue. Designed for eighth graders, this one-page worksheet gives students a chance to practice both grammar and narrative writing skills. Students will study 10 different scenarios and write a realistic line of dialogue that includes an ellipsis for each one.
