Worksheet

Silent Final Consonant

Help your beginning reader identify words with a silent ending in this colorful worksheet! In part one, learners will look at 10 incomplete words with associated pictures. They will need to write the last letter of each word so that it correctly spells the word that matches the picture. Then, they'll circle all of the pictures that have a silent final consonant. In part two, students will circle all of the words that have a silent final consonant, making sure to avoid words whose silent letters aren't the last letter.

Designed for second and third graders, this worksheet is a great opportunity for students to practice reading and spelling words with silent letters. Because silent letters are both tricky and commonplace in English words, it is important that young readers reinforce their silent letter knowledge so that they can reliably read and write these words whenever they encounter them.
