Research an Ecosystem

Students research an ecosystem of their choice and create an ecosystem model in this life science worksheet for middle grades! In this engaging research-based activity, learners will use guiding questions to research and identify the unique climate, terrain, producers, consumers, and decomposers of their chosen ecosystem. Then, on page two, students will draw an ecosystem model based on their research that shows how nutrients and energy flow throughout the ecosystem. As an extension activity to this worksheet, consider having students give a presentation on their ecosystem or make a poster of their model using hand-drawn or printed images. Ideally, learners should first complete the Food Webs: Cycling of Matter and Flow of Energy worksheet for an introduction to food webs and energy cycles.
