Reading Comprehension: Map That Story!

It's time to map that story! Students relive the journey through a recently read book as they detail the main characters, parts of the book, and their favorite thing about the book. This structured reading comprehension worksheet helps first and second graders summarize fiction texts and make connections between story elements.

Students fill in each section independently. First, they state the name of the book they’re mapping. Then, they write the names of three characters and draw them. Next, students write sentences about what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Finally, they draw their favorite part of the book. Complement this worksheet with the similar “Somebody Wanted” Story Map activity.
