Parts of Speech Review: Common and Proper Nouns

Go back to the basics with this parts of speech review worksheet featuring common and proper nouns! The one-page practice worksheet begins with a review of the difference between common and proper nouns: a common noun names a general type of person, place, thing, or idea and does not start with a capital letter, while a proper noun is the specific name of something and always starts with a capital letter. Students will apply their understanding of common and proper nouns by identifying and classifying the nouns in a series of sentences. Then, in part 2, learners will rewrite two sentences using correct capitalization, circling the common nouns and underlining the proper nouns in each one.

Geared toward fourth- and fifth-grade learners, this grammar worksheet offers a useful review of the differences between common and proper noun types, while helping students to boost their own writing and editing skills.
