Onomatopoeia Practice: Video Game Adventures

Learn onomatopoeia while you experience an exciting video game quest! Words like whir, hiss, and chirp are onomatopoeia, or words that imitate the sound they describe. In part one, students will identify and circle the onomatopoeia in each sentence. In part two, they will need to complete each sentence by adding onomatopoeia. Then, in part three, learners can write two of their own sentences and circle all of the onomatopoeia they used.

This worksheet is designed for fourth through sixth graders learning about the different types of figurative language. Onomatopoeia is a useful device students students will need to understand so they can better comprehend their reading and add more flavor and interest to their own writing.
