Onomatopoeia Practice: Summer Fun

Make a splash with this summer-themed figurative language worksheet! To begin, learners will read seven sentences and circle the example of onomatopoeia in each. Then, students are asked to complete a sentence by identifying an example of onomatopoeia from a multiple-choice selection. Each of the word choices fit in the sentence, but learners must correctly choose the one that adds onomatopoeia.

Geared toward fourth- and fifth-grade learners, this worksheet provides scaffolded opportunities for students to find and apply onomatopoeia. Figurative language devices, such as this, can enrich writing by adding imagery and detail.
