Observing the Phases of the Moon

Study the night sky with this hands-on science worksheet! To begin, students will read a brief description of the moon’s phases and review a diagram. Then, young astronomers will go outside on a clear night to observe the moon! Learners are asked to draw a picture of the moon, name its current phase, and determine which phase came beforehand. 

This worksheet will build on third- and fourth-grade astronomers’ knowledge about the phases of the moon. Seeing scientific concepts in their own backyard can help reinforce the information for students, allowing for better understanding.
