Novel Study: Wonder: Discussion Guide #4

Build critical thinking and literacy skills with these discussion questions for parts 5–7 of R.J. Palacio’s Wonder. Geared toward fourth, fifth, and sixth graders, this discussion guide focuses on the chapters "Olivia’s Brother" through "After the Show," corresponding to pages 187-246 in the novel's 2017 hardcopy Random House edition. Through the use of in-depth reading comprehension, analysis, and connection questions, readers will examine Justin’s point of view of the events described in part five, explore August’s point of view in part six, and contrast parts five and six with Miranda’s point of view found in part seven of the book. Then, they will analyze the new plot points and consider how the author shows that August is growing up in this part of the book.

Whether used to spark a classroom discussion or as individual writing prompts, these thought-provoking questions are an engaging way to help learners review essential reading comprehension skills. Click “View answer key” to see sample student responses and context.
