Novel Study: The Outsiders: Greasers vs. Socs

After students read S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, have them compare and contrast the greasers and the Socs using this two-page novel study extension activity! First, readers will use text evidence and quotes to complete a chart of differences and similarities between the greasers and the Socs. Students will need to consider each group's physical characteristics, backgrounds, behaviors, and values. Then, on page two, students will use their notes from the graphic organizer and evidence from the text to write 2–3 paragraphs comparing and contrasting the two groups.
