Novel Study: Holes: Discussion Guide #4

Finish your readthrough of Louis Sachar’s Holes with this essential discussion guide! Page one covers chapters 40–44, and page two covers chapter 45–50. Both pages include a number of comprehension questions to make sure students understand what happens in the relevant chapters. The pages also include analysis questions that ask students to think about why the events of the story happen the way they do, why characters act or feel a particular way, and why the author might have made certain decisions. Each page concludes with a “personal connection” question that prompts students to think about how their own experiences relate to the events of the story. As they answer these questions, students can develop their reading comprehension skills, including analyzing characters, making inferences, and citing textual evidence. This guide is part of a larger novel study of Louis Sachar’s Holes and is intended for fourth through sixth graders.
