Making Inferences in a Fictional Text

It’s time to make an inference (or many)! Reading comprehension strategies take center stage as fourth and fifth graders are challenged to read a short story and draw conclusions from it on this comprehension questions worksheet.

Students are reminded of what an inference is and how to make one. Then, they read a short fictional story called “The Hazlenut Child.” Finally, students answer a series of questions about inferences they can make from the short story. Encourage students to underline the text clues they use to answer each question.
