Make Your Own Inferences

Is it possible to make an inference from just one sentence? Challenge second and third graders to prove it’s possible with this making inferences in fiction worksheet.

Making inferences is a critical skill for young readers to master on their way to reading fluency. It helps them look beyond the words on the page to figure out the author's message. For each problem, students are given one sentence, and they have to write a reasonable inference they could make from that statement.

To add more sentences to this challenge, ask students to also complete the Make Your Own Inferences 2 worksheet.
