Linking Verbs: A Stormy Day

Whether it’s sunny or stormy, there's always time to learn about linking verbs! In this worksheet, students are told about verbs like am, are, is, and seems, which do not show action, but instead connect the subject of the sentence to a noun or adjective. Learners will read a journal entry describing the stormy weather and identify the linking verb in each sentence.

This worksheet is a perfect activity to help explain linking verbs to third and fourth graders. Students are used to learning about action verbs, which describe movement, function, and change.  However, to understand English grammar, they will also need to learn about verbs that don’t describe action in the same way. Learners will use the skills they practice in this worksheet throughout their lives as they continue to read and write.
