How Quickly Does Erosion Happen?

Discover the impact of water on Earth’s landscape with this erosion worksheet! Water can cause erosion, or the moving of rocks and sediment, in many ways. To begin, learners will correctly order a set of photos showing coastal erosion. Then, young geologists will answer a series of short-answer questions about how the speed of flowing water can affect the timing of erosion.

This activity will help fourth graders understand the ways in which water affects Earth’s landscape through erosion. Students will recognize how land can be naturally changed as they consider the size and amount of sediment that gets carried with water. Erosion and other similar processes are important to understanding the extent and impact of Earth’s systems.
