Headline Hunters: Spot the Bias

Practice identifying bias with this worksheet for sixth through eighth graders! In the media, bias can appear in the words that reporters choose to describe current events. Language can be positively biased, negatively biased, or neutral. Students will read each headline, determine if it shows bias, and underline the words that support their answer. Learners are then asked to explain their reasoning.

Media literacy is an incredibly important skill for students to have. Whether learners are conducting research for a project or independently reading articles, students must be able to identify bias to determine if sources are providing accurate information. This worksheet will also allow students to present conclusions using evidence, which is the basis of persuasive essay writing.
