Worksheet
Habitat Highlights: Desert Animals
Why do some desert animals have large ears? Why do others have scales? Learn the answers to these questions and more with this life science worksheet! To begin, learners will read about the characteristics of a desert. Students are then shown images of four animals: a desert monitor, fennec fox, cape hare, and saw-scaled viper. Young biologists will answer questions to determine what adaptations each animal has, such as large ears, thick scales, and camouflage.
Through this worksheet, third graders will learn about different ways animals can adapt to their environment. Adaptations can help animals obtain food, protect themselves, and survive harsh conditions. Recognizing how animals adapt is key to understanding more about habitats and ecosystems as a whole. Students can also practice comparing and contrasting characteristics and making inferences!
