Exploring Fossils: Clues from the Past #4

Discover the animals and plants of the past in this fossil-focused worksheet! Students will first read about the difference between body fossils and trace fossils. Then, they will look at three different fossils and determine whether they are body or trace fossils. They will also decide whether the fossil is from an animal or plant, and whether it lived on land or in the ocean. Finally, students will write about what these fossils can indicate about how the place they were found has changed.

This third-grade worksheet is designed to teach students about fossils and the way that scientists can use them to learn about the ancient environment. This worksheet is not meant to be graded for corrections; instead it is meant to give students a chance to practice making observations and using their critical thinking skills to draw conclusions from evidence.
