Expanding Sentences: Spring Has Sprung

Stop and smell the flowers as you learn to expand sentences with subordinating conjunctions! This worksheet presents students with eight simple sentences, each accompanied by a subordinating conjunction such as when, because, and although. Learners are asked to expand the sentences with creative detail by using the subordinating conjunctions.

This worksheet is a great writing and grammar activity for third graders. The ability to use subordinating conjunctions to expand simple sentences into complex sentences is vital for students as they write in more detail about more complicated subjects. This activity also supports learners’ editing skills by giving them practice evaluating and improving pre-written sentences.
