Worksheet
Estimating Length: Insects
Don’t let estimating and measuring bug you—strengthen your skills with this fun worksheet! Second graders will begin by looking at each insect under the magnifying glass and estimating its length in centimeters. Students are then asked to measure each insect with a ruler to find its actual length. Learners can compare their estimates with the actual measurements to see just how close they were!
This fun, hands-on activity will give students practice measuring in centimeters, which can help build confidence using the metric system. Learners can also sharpen their critical thinking abilities with estimation as they figure out what measurements make sense for each insect. Estimation and measurement are fundamental skills for students to have that can help them beyond the classroom!
