Dot a Word: ar

Can you find all the -ar words in this colorful phonics worksheet? Students will need to read 20 words and identify all of the words that have the r-controlled vowel ar in them, such as garden, shark, and barn. They can use a dot marker or color each ar word that they find. 

This worksheet is perfect for first and second graders learning about the “Bossy R,” or r-controlled vowel sounds. Students can practice reading ar words and recognizing the sound that these words make. R-controlled vowel sounds are common in English, so a strong understanding of them is foundational for phonics education.
