Divide Using Arrays: Animals Around the Room

Head out on a classroom safari with this engaging division worksheet! Third graders will complete each equation, then walk around the classroom to search for the animal array that matches! After finding each array, students will use their answers to solve a riddle. To prepare for this activity, an adult will post the array cards on the second page in different places around the room. Each student will receive a copy of the worksheet on the first page, but the clue cards only need to be printed once. If desired, the cards can be laminated for repeated use.

Having visual support can help students get a better grasp on what division means. Arrays help illustrate how numbers can be divided into equal groups, where each row or column represents the divisor or quotient. Additionally, arrays can reinforce the relationship between multiplication and division.
