Worksheet
Counting Syllables: Part I
Clap, clap, clap your hands as you help your child complete this syllable practice worksheet! Clapping out the sounds helps students learn to count syllables in words, and this tip is provided before the activity along with an explanation of what syllables are.
As first- and second-grade students learn more about reading, phonics, writing, and grammar, understanding syllables is important. With this worksheet, learners identify the syllables in 14 two-syllable or three-syllable words. Once identified, students write each syllable on the appropriate blank line and write the number of syllables in the word.
Continue counting syllables and introduce word patterns with the Syllable Patterns: VCCV worksheet and the Separating Syllables: V/CV Pattern worksheet.
