Combine the Syllables: Cut and Paste #1

Match syllables to create new words in this colorful, hands-on worksheet! Students will first need to cut out the 20 syllables at the bottom of the page. With the help of a set of picture clues, they’ll combine pairs of syllables and create 10 new two-syllable words. 

Intended for first and second graders, this worksheet can build on students’ knowledge of syllables and spelling. Syllables are the building blocks of words, so a strong understanding of how they go together and make multisyllabic words can make students stronger readers and spellers, especially as they encounter longer and more complex words.
