Classify Solids, Liquids, and Gases

Analyze everyday objects and identify states of matter with this science worksheet! First, students will read brief definitions of solids, liquids, and gases. Then, learners are asked to review eight different items and determine whether the image shows a solid, liquid, or gas. A pot may be a solid, but what about the steam inside of it?

This exercise helps second and third graders apply scientific concepts to common objects. Distinguishing states of matter is a fundamental skill for students to have as they learn more about physical science, chemistry, and the world around them.
