Worksheet

Build a City: Compose Numbers 17–18

Practice fluency by building a flourishing city in this second-grade worksheet! Students will fill in the windows of each building with addition equations that have a sum of 17 or 18. After students have written all of the addition sentences, they will count the total number for each building and write their answer in the correct cloud.

This activity is a unique way to build addition fact fluency. Students will practice composing 17 and 18 in many different ways as they complete this worksheet! They will also see how the order of addends does not affect the sum, demonstrating the commutative property of addition.
