Worksheet

Build a City: Compose Numbers 15–16

Use math to construct a thriving city in this colorful worksheet! For each high-rise, learners will write addition sentences that equal the value on top of the building. After students have filled in all of the windows, they will count how many equations they wrote for each number and write their answer in the corresponding cloud.

This worksheet is a fun way for second graders to practice addition fact fluency. Learners will discover all of the ways to compose 15 and 16 as they complete each building. This activity also demonstrates how the order of addends does not affect the sum.
