After reading Jim Murphy’s The Great Fire, help learners make connections between the book and their community with this engaging extension activity. Readers will choose a region and a natural disaster to research, and then they will design a public service announcement or infographic to inform people how to stay safe during a natural disaster. Designed for fifth- and sixth-grade learners, this two-page worksheet guides students through the process of designing and planning a project. Students can use the organizer on page 2 to brainstorm ideas, record the details they want to include, and then use the information to design a catchy informational resource.
