Book Study: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Electricity Generation Research Project

After finishing the book The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba, encourage students to explore the wide-ranging world of nonrenewable and renewable energy! In the book, William Kamkwamba creates a windmill that generates electricity. This extension activity explains the difference between renewable and nonrenewable energy and then invites students to research one source of electricity generation. Students will research and record where it's found, how it works, its benefits, and its challenges. Then, they will share their findings with a partner who researched a different form of electricity generation. Finally, learners will compare and contrast the two different methods.
