Book Study: Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl: The Role of Resistance
After finishing Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, give students a chance to explore the role that resistance played in the Holocaust with this poignant extension activity. Resistance comes in many forms, whether it’s by boycotting, rising up with force, or refusing to follow restrictions. This one-page worksheet asks students to first consider the examples of resistance that were mentioned in Anne’s diary. Then they will conduct research to find other examples of resistance that happened elsewhere during the same time period. After recording their notes in a graphic organizer, students will reflect on how much we can learn about resistance during the Holocaust from Anne’s diary and what information gaps we might have given her circumstances.
