Associative Property of Addition: What's Missing?
Try using the associative property in this fill-in-the-blank worksheet! Students are presented with a math expression including three addends, two of which are grouped using parentheses. This expression should be equal to a second, incomplete expression, in which two different addends are grouped together. To complete the worksheet, students will need to fill in the blank in the second expression so that the two expressions demonstrate the associative property. Finally, they will find the sum of the expressions.
Use this worksheet to teach first graders about the associative property of addition in an engaging, understandable way. Knowledge of addition properties can help students rearrange expressions to solve addition problems more easily. While completing this worksheet, students can also practice their addition fact fluency within 20.
