Add Using Compensation: Make a Number Line Model #1

Create models of addition problems with this compensation worksheet! For each problem, students will make a number line model to represent the addition sentence using compensation. The first arrow learners draw will show the multiple of 10, while the second arrow shows the difference. Students will then find the sum and complete the equation.

Designed for second and third graders, this worksheet will provide students with an easy way to add larger numbers. Compensation can also be a helpful way to do mental math! As learners reinforce rounding and using multiples of 10, they can strengthen their number sense and gain confidence with addition.

This worksheet is the first in a series of three. Be sure to try Add Using Compensation: Make a Number Line Model #2 next! For a review on compensation, check out Add Using Compensation: Number Line Models #1.
