5th Grade Math Resources
Fifth grade students can build confidence in math with access to over 1,000 printable worksheets, guided lessons, hands-on activities, and more in Education.com’s Learning Library. These resources align with Common Core State Standards and are designed to support a smooth transition from elementary to middle school math.
At this level, learners apply foundational skills to more advanced concepts. Fifth grade math resources introduce the order of operations, using the PEMDAS acronym to help students solve multi-step expressions that contain parentheses and other grouping symbols with confidence. Our resources support students to solidify their understanding of multi-digit whole number multiplication using the standard algorithm. Learners also strengthen their whole number division skills using strategies based on place value and concrete models. From here, students can use the place value understanding they have built in previous grades and our offering of fifth grade decimal place value resources to make generalizations about the relative sizes of places in the base-ten system and read, write, compare, and round decimal numbers. This new decimal understanding, combined with their whole number operation skills, prepares students to add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimal numbers to the hundredths place. Students also expand their understanding of fractions, working toward deep conceptual understanding and procedural fluency with fraction operations. Measurement activities for fifth grade provide practice in converting length, weight, and volume in both the metric system and the customary system. These real-world math challenges help reinforce problem-solving skills and build practical knowledge. Our fifth grade geometry resources allow students to classify two-dimensional figures and calculate the volume of right rectangular prisms and composite figures in real-world and mathematical problems. Learners also explore the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, setting them up for success in working on the coordinate plane in middle school math classes.
Education.com supports diverse learning preferences with both digital and print-friendly formats. Easy-to-use filters allow parents, teachers, and homeschoolers to find resources by topic, skill, or resource type—whether they’re introducing new material, reviewing key concepts, preparing for assessments, or preventing learning loss during school breaks. Looking ahead? Explore our sixth grade math resources to continue your learner’s math journey.
