Learning Objectives

Students will be able to identify parts of a book, including the roles of the author and illustrator, with prompting and support.

Introduction

(10 minutes)
  • Ask students what they look for when they are trying to pick a book to read.
  • Ask them to identify what is important to them. For example, they might look at pictures, big text, or funny titles.

Beginning

  • Pair students up with a student who speaks the same home language (L1) to share what they look for in a book.

Intermediate

  • Provide sentence starters for students to use as they share their ideas aloud, "I look for the ________."
