Learning Objectives

Students will be able to describe how characters respond to challenges in a story plot.

Introduction

(2 minutes)
  • Tell students that today they will be reading short stories as a class and as small groups. Explain that they will use a story map to discuss the characters in each story.

Beginning: Have students turn to a partner and explain what you will be discussing, either in English or their home language (L1).

Intermediate:

  • Have students rephrase what you will be studying today. Explain that rephrasing means to use your own words.
  • Ask students to give examples of short stories they know.
