Sticky Subtraction

Don't put students in a sticky situation by not having them practice their subtraction facts! This lesson will give them plenty of practice, both in a group setting and individually to help them succeed later on.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to increase their fluency of subtraction facts.

Introduction

(5 minutes)
  • Gather the students together in the class meeting place.
  • Tell the students that today they will practice subtraction facts with answers from 5-10.
  • Define subtraction, the process of taking one value away from another, minus, decreased by, and equals, alike in quantity.
  • On the board, draw a rectangle and divide it into six boxes.
  • Write one number, for 5 to 10, in each space.
