Learning Objectives

Students will practice reading and spelling grade level sight words.

Introduction

(5 minutes)
  • Gather students together for the start of the lesson.
  • Tell the class that today, they're going to practice reading and spelling sight words. Define a sight word as a word that we see often, yet can be tricky to sound out. Explain that is why they must practice reading and spelling sight words so that they can memorize them.
  • Ask if anyone think of or point to a sight word in our classroom.
  • Allow several students to point out or say known sight words.

Beginning: Pre-teach students how to play bingo in a small group.

Intermediate: Encourage students to practice using the sight words around the room verbally in a sentence with a peer.
