It's time to go shopping! In this math lesson, little learners will have fun pretending to shop at a store that you have set up in your classroom or at home. Get some items ready for your children to purchase including homemade price tags and fake money for them to use. This entertaining lesson will help kids learn how to differentiate between quarters, dimes, pennies, and more! When kids become proficient at recognizing and knowing the value of coins, they gain confidence with money math, a main feature of the first grade curriculum.
Learning Objectives
Students will be able to exchange sufficient currency for goods.
Introduction
(5 minutes)- Call students together.
- Ask students to think about times in their life they have received money. Students may talk about birthday or holiday gifts. They may also mention allowances. Try to guide the conversation to a time when someone was providing a good or service.
- Ask students to think about different goods and services people pay for. Help students to think about all the different ways people spend their money.
