Learning Objectives
Students will be able to point out individual letters and words in sentences.
Introduction
(5 minutes)- Call students together.
- On the classroom whiteboard, write “Every sentence is made up of words and letters.”
- Ask for student volunteers to point out different letters.
- Then, write the word “is” on the board and ask students to find it in the sentence. Repeat with “of” and “and.”
Beginning
- Review the alphabet by singing it aloud.
- Go over the concept of individual letters strung together into words with students prior to the lesson.
Intermediate
- Modify the sentence written on the board to allow students to read it along with the teacher. Alternatively, read the sentence aloud and then have students repeat each word (echo reading) as you read it a second time.
