Learning Objectives
- Students will be able to recognize and create basic patterns.
Introduction
(5 minutes)- Begin the lesson with a discussion about patterns. Ask the class questions such as: "Have you ever seen a shirt with different colored stripes? Have you ever had to write or make something that has a pattern? What are some patterned things in our classroom? What are some patterned things you have at home?"
Beginning
- As you ask guiding questions, provide visual examples for students to use to support their understanding of what a pattern looks like (e.g., a shirt, clock, etc.).
Intermediate
- Pair students together with a partner and provide sentence frames for them to use when sharing their ideas.
