Learning Objectives
Students will be able to re-read a nonfiction text at their level and write or draw three new things they’ve learned to share with a partner.
Introduction
(5 minutes)- Tell students they are going to learn to share what they are learning in their nonfiction books with others by discussing three interesting facts with a partner.
- Explain that facts drawn from nonfiction texts are truths verified by the author’s research.
Beginning:
- Activate background knowledge by reminding students that nonfiction books include facts that give readers true information about a topic.
- Provide examples and non-examples of facts. Have students respond with thumbs-up if an example is a fact, or thumbs-down if it is not.
Intermediate: Read a page from a nonfiction text, and model noticing new or interesting facts as you read.
