Mindful Animal Movement

Let's move mindfully, with focus and ease, like a frog or a gorilla! In this lesson, students will practice mindful movement and come up with their own mindful animal movements that they can then teach to a peer.

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to define the term "mindful movement" and practice ways they may move with attention and care.

Introduction

(10 minutes)
  • Join students together in a circle, seated in chairs.
  • Ask students to stand.
  • Explain that they will play a game called "Shake It Up."
  • Play the video "Family Fun: Kids Mindfulness Games" at 6 minutes and 32 seconds (6:32).
  • Model for students how to move in different ways to different sounds.
  • Pause at 12 minutes and 20 seconds (12:20).
  • Ask, "What did you notice? How do you feel? How did it feel to move slow? Fast?"
