Facts and Opinions: What's the Truth?

Use this lesson to teach your students about facts and opinions. Teach them that a certain belief that they have about someone or something is not a fact!

Learning Objectives

Students will be able to differentiate between facts and opinions.

Introduction

(10 minutes)
  • Ask your students if they know what a fact is. Explain that a fact is something that is true. Give your students an example of a fact. An example is that an octagon has eight sides.
  • Ask your students if they know what an opinion is. Explain that an opinion is a belief that people have about something or someone. Give your students an example of an opinion. An example is that Texas is the most beautiful state. Explain that it is an opinion because not everyone thinks Texas is the most beautiful state.
