Linking Letter Sounds

In this caterpillar-focused lesson plan, students will practice identifying words that begin with the letter C, while learning about the metamorphosis of a butterfly. This can be used as a stand alone or support lesson for your ELs.
This lesson can be used as a pre-lesson for the Phonics With The Very Hungry Caterpillar lesson plan.

Objectives

Academic

Students will have a basic understanding of metamorphosis and be able to recognize the /c/ sound.

Language

Students will be able to identify the beginning sound in grade level words with uppercase and lowercase letters using visual aides.

Introduction

  • Display the images or objects beginning with the letter C.
  • Ask the students to turn and talk to a partner to identify the name of each object or image.
