Diner Division
Students learn how to fairly split the bill with this lesson that has them race to find out the amount they owe on a check! Students will apply their knowledge of dividing decimals to real-world situations of dining out!

Learning Objectives
Students will be able to identify, explore, and apply the standard algorithm for dividing decimals by a whole number in order to solve real-world math problems.
Introduction
(5 minutes)- Ask students to think about their experiences of dining at a restaurant.
- Ask students how math is used when they dine out.
- Make a list of student responses on the board (e.g., wait time, table number, menu prices, bill).
Beginning
- Allow students to use their home language (L1) or new language (L2) in their discussions in the whole lesson. Have them share ideas aloud in the language of their choice.
- Have them draw visuals of their experiences while dining out.
Intermediate
- Write the academic language they can use throughout the lesson on the board as you introduce the language (e.g., wait time, table number, menu prices, bill).
